The geographical characteristics of the Zhongchangtou area ranges from low altitude to high mountain environment. Therefore, the fruit industry covers a wide variety of fruits such as temperature fruits of grape, pear, sweet persimmon, pitch, apple and plum, subtropical and tropical fruits of lychee, longan, ponkan, murcott, orange, wendan, pomelo, white pomelo, xishi pomelo, loquat, guava, passion fruit and pitaya which all are planted. In the fruit industry for the year of 2022, the total cultivation area is 35,668 hectares accounted for 25.7% of total domestic cultivation area; the total yield is 556,033 metric tons accounted for 24.7% of the total domestic yield, the production value is 303.3 billion dollars accounted for 32.2% of the total domestic production value. Grapes, persimmons, pears, plums, peaches, plums, etc. are cultivated in higher altitude areas such as Taichung and Nantou. Grapes are also cultivated with large areas in Changhua plain area due to the development of techniques of off-season production. Subtropical and tropical fruits such as lychee, longan, ponkan, guava and pitaya are grown in low altitude areas of Changhua, Nantou and Taichung. The specialty crops in the jurisdiction are loquat (accounting for 83.0% of the total domestic planting area of loquat), passion fruit (accounting for 77.6% of the total domestic planting area of passion fruit), grape (accounting for 80.4% of the total domestic planting area of grape), persimmon (accounting for 74.2% of the total domestic planting area of persimmon), and pear (accounting for 81.6% of the total domestic planting area of pear) and peach (accounting for 68.5% of the total domestic planting area of peach).
From 1997 to 2022, the fruit cultivation area in Zhongchangtou area gradually decreased from 63,721 to 35,668 hectares, a decrease of 44.0%. The largest decreases of fruits were plums (4,702 hectares) and pears (2,489 hectares). The cultivation area of persimmon increased by 2,880 hectares, making it the largest increase in cultivation area in the central region in the past 30 years. The top 5 fruits with the largest cultivation area in recent years (as shown in the table below) show that the fruit cultivation in the central region is gradually shifting from temperature fruits to subtropical fruits.

Longan | The report of 2022 Agricultural Statistics Yearbook showed that the cultivation area of longan in the central region is 4,148 hectares. The production areas are Wufeng District, Taiping District, Beitun District and Dali District in Taichung City, Zhongliao Township, Nantou City and Minfo Township in Nantou County, and Shetou Township, Fenyuan Township, Yuanlin City and Changhua City in Changhua County, etc. The production period is from July to August, and the main cultivated varieties are 'Fenke' and 'Fuyan'. |

Pear production includes top-grafted pears at low and medium altitude and pears at high-cold altitude. At present, the main varieties include Baodao Manlu pear, Xinsue pear, New Century pear, Xinxing pear and Fengshui pear. |
