The total rice area cultivated in the two cropping seasons of 2021 in the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou area is 67,380 hectares, accounting for 30.1% of the total rice area in Taiwan; the output is 493,968 tons, accounting for 31.6% of the total rice output in Taiwan. Among them, Changhua County has the largest cultivation area among counties and cities. (accounting for 21.0% of Taiwan). The first cropping season rice cultivation area in the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou area is 34,953 hectares, and the second cropping season rice cultivation area is 32,430 hectares. If divided by counties and cities, the two-season rice cultivation in Taichung City totals 16,183 hectares, the two-season rice cultivation in Changhua County is 47,113 hectares, and the two-season rice cultivation in Nantou County is 4,084 hectares. In terms of varieties, japonica rice, indica rice and glutinous rice are all major production areas. Not only is japonica rice an important source in Taiwan, but the production of indica rice and indica-glutinous rice accounts for more than 50% of Taiwan's total area. The cultivated area in the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou region is 59,555 hectares, accounting for 28.8% of the total cultivated area in Taiwan. It is distributed in the plain area of three counties and cities. The main cultivated varieties are 'Tainan No. 11', 'Taikeng No. 9' and 'Taichung No. 192'.

The cultivated area in the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou region is 4,159 hectares (4,073 hectares of soft indica rice and 86 hectares of hard indica rice), accounting for 53.9% of the total indica rice area in Taiwan. Xiushui Township, Huatan Township, Lukang Town, Fangyuan Township in Changhua County and Zhushan Town in Nantou County are the most popular. In the main producing areas, the main cultivated varieties of soft indica rice are 'Taichung Sen No. 10' and 'Taichung Sen No. 198', while the main cultivated varieties of hard indica rice are 'Taichung Sen No. 17' and 'Taichung Sen No. 197'.

The cultivated area in the Taichung-Changhua-Nantou region is 3,666 hectares (3,429 hectares for indica glutinous rice and 237 hectares for Japonica glutinous rice), accounting for 38.5% of Taiwan’s glutinous rice area. Fuxing Township and Puyan Township in Changhua County are the main production areas. The main cultivated varieties of indica glutinous rice are 'Taichung Sen Waxy No. 2' and japonica glutinous rice are 'Taikeng Waxy No. 3'.
