　　 香蜂草為一歐美廣泛使用之天然芳香與藥用保健植物，相關的應用與化學成份已被廣泛研究。然而天然植物受栽種土壤、氣候環境與個體差異的影響頗大，其組成或有效成份在含量上有所不同。經水蒸氣蒸餾法所得之香蜂草精油，以氣相層析 (GC) 設備分離，搭配質譜偵測器 (MS) 鑑別，能有效鑑定出 33 種化學物質。精油之主要成份以帖類物質為主，檸檬醛則佔精油組成 54% 以上 (citral = neral + geranial) 。

　　Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) has been employed for medicinal use for its volatile oils and other components in western countries . The compositions or effective components can be influenced by climate, cultivation practice and varieties. Essential oil obtained by steam distillation were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Thirty-three components were identified. Terpenoid is the main component of the essential oil, in which citral (citral = neral + geranial) takes up nearly 54%.
